Dr. Vavassori, could you give us an indication of how your sector is going? Which markets?
The automotive is experiencing a phase of profound transformation, driven by a growing emphasis on sustainability, digitalisation and electrification. This, in turn, stimulates our evolution, because first-tier components have the task of supporting the big manufacturers in this change. The adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles is driving an increasing demand for advanced components, where software becomes a central element. Therefore, we are investing in research & development and to acquire new competences in order to meet our customers’ needs. The target markets for us remain the same, from Europe to North America and China, where we have been present for a long time and have been satisfactorily serving the growing demand of domestic and foreign manufacturers operating there. We also note an increasing interest in emerging markets, especially in Asia. Brembo has recently invested 40 million euro to open a production site in Thailand, the first one for us in this country.
How is the situation in Italy?
In Italy, the scenario remains complex. Since the beginning of the year, the motor vehicle production index went down by 16% compared to the first five months of 2023. On the other hand, vehicle registrations have started up again, increasing by 15% in June. The positive effect of the long-awaited eco-bonus introduced in June is thus beginning to be observed. In the medium term, the challenge for us remains to adapt our production and technological capacity to the new market demands, a task we are facing with determination through investment in innovation and staff training.

How is the relationship of Brembo with the world of machine tools? How do you see it in the future?
The relationship is undoubtedly positive. Machine tools are fundamental to our production and their technological evolution has a direct impact on our ability to innovate and maintain high quality standards. In the near future, the keywords are “digital” and “sustainability”. The adoption of advanced technologies integrating artificial intelligence and positively affecting the environmental sustainability of production will allow us to increase precision and efficiency. In this connection, a positive boost will come from the Transition 5.0 Plan. In addition, close partnerships with machine tool suppliers will be crucial to remain competitive and meet new market requirements.
What do you expect to find at Bi-MU next October?
At Bi-MU, we expect to find the answers to these needs that are so central to any large-sized enterprise such as ours. We will pay special attention to the latest innovations in production technologies that also focus on digital transformation and environmental sustainability. Moreover, as usual, the exhibition represents an excellent opportunity to establish new contacts and strengthen our existing partnerships.
