Interview with Marcello Pauletti
3D METAL

Could you briefly introduce your company?

Initially specialising in grinding, turning and milling, 3D METAL was created thirty years ago, with a focus on traditional mechanical engineering and subtractive metalworking technologies. Later on, in 2018, the company extended its product offerings with additive machining solutions, thanks to the use of a plant with DMLS technology from EOS and, subsequently, through the use of all materials needed for post-processing, dimensional testing, 3D scanning and reverse engineering. Today, additive technology is our main specialization; traditional machining is still part of our business, but to a very limited extent.

This is your first year at BI-MU. Could you explain the reasons for this choice?

In the past, we have always focused on small exhibitions, linked to our region, Emilia-Romagna. Instead, this year we have decided to exhibit at BI-MU for the first time, fostered by our strong growth and our interest in expanding internationally as well. This new experience will allow us to improve our visibility and mark our relevance throughout Northern Italy, too. In addition, we expect to obtain many contacts, with whom we can establish concrete business relations.

34.BI-MU will give a lot of visibility to additive technologies through the exhibition theme “piùAdditive”. What do you think about this?

I think that piùAdditive is a very interesting and appropriate exhibition proposal: the interest of the machine tool sector in additive manufacturing is on the rise and these new and established solutions are now at the turning point of changing from prototyping technologies to manufacturing technologies.

I think that piùAdditive is a very interesting and appropriate exhibition proposal: the interest of the machine tool sector in additive manufacturing is constantly on the rise

What will you show at the exhibition?

We will present a set of items explaining our product ranges. In particular, we will focus on displaying some components that, in addition to requiring complex additive manufacturing, need subsequent machining. Our stand will also be enriched with promotional elements, such as catalogues and roll-ups, in a convivial environment that will encourage direct contact with operators in attendance.

What are your predictions for the future of the sector?

I am confident about the future, even if, at the moment – due to the fluctuating economic performance and the uncertain geopolitical situation – I cannot yet quantify the actual growth trend with certainty. However, the outlook is positive.

And what are your predictions for the future of 3D METAL?

Our market positioning is definitely favourable. We have important customers who place a lot of trust in our expertise and in the quality of our product offerings and we are receiving positive feedback from all our fields of application. That’s why, for the future of 3D METAL, I can only expect a strong growth, starting from the second half of the current year throughout the next two years.
