The reduction of dead times during machine set-up operation plays today a remarkable importance in the economy of mechanical machining. For this purpose, M.T. S.r.l. developed a quick change system that allows to achieve maximum flexibility and to considerably reduce the set-up times, while maintaining the compact dimensions, rigidity and precision that always characterize the M.T. driven toolholders. The system requires the use of a driven toolholder prearranged for MTSK modular system: the driven tool can remain assembled on the turret, while only the adapter is replaced for every single process. The main features of MTSK modular system are the very compact axial dimensions (even lower than those of Capto system) and the high stability and repeatability accuracy (due to the contact taper/plane). The clamping and removal of the adapter is operated by a threading system, which ensures a proper torque transmission and the correct disassembly in every situation. Different models of adapters are available, for ER collets, Weldon, milling arbor, etc. Together with the MTSK modular system, M.T. developed a new mechanism for tool assembly and removal, based on the use of a fork wrench, much more secure, reliable and user friendly compared with the traditional system that involves the use of two wrenches. This system was later extended also to the standard driven tool range.
Broaching of gears and keyways directly on the cnc lathe
Among the many solutions for the machining of gears in the wide range offered by M.T., there is the Driven Broaching Toolholder, a device dedicated both to the machining of internal and external gears and the machining of keyways directly on the turret lathe, without having to use any other dedicated machines. A versatile and practical device, which guarantees the highest precision of machining and whose use allows a reduction in the processing time and costs. The 1:1 ratio allows the Driven Broaching Toolholder to create a keyway in just 8-10 seconds, a time much shorter than the one normally required to complete the same machining using the axis of the machine. The latter also benefits from the fact that the broaching, a heavy machining, is carried out by the Driven Broaching Toolholder and not by the axis of the machine itself. In addition, the automatic tool lifting during the return stroke carried out on the M.T. device, maximizes the useful life of the insert tool, while its oversized guides ensure high precision throughout the length and allow both the machining of keyways and the internal and external gears. It is sufficient to reverse the direction of rotation in order to change the machining from the outer diameter to the inner one; the same insert tool can be used for internal and external machining and the working stroke of 47 mm allows a wide variety of operations on both the keyways and the gearing. The MT Driven Broaching Toolholder is extremely versatile and practical and it is compatible with a wide range of machines, even those not equipped with Y-axis, thanks to an optional feature available, which consists of a micro-adjustment system to recover any misalignment in the Y direction.
